Hi! My name is Ms. Yada and I am currently teaching grades K-3 for the school year 2020-2021. Mrs. Ligman is teaching grades 4 and 5. We are beginning our sixth year as a virtual school. With the closure of schools due to the Coronavirus, we are offering a distance model to learning. Students in grades 3-5 are meeting with their teacher in zoom twice a week. Parents and students in grade K-2 meet weekly with their teacher. Students in grades K-5 use Edgenuity as their learning platform. During distance learning, Mrs. Ligman and Ms. Yada have been using Nearpod, an interactive program with their students in grades 3-5. Nearpod allows students to draw responses, answer questions, play interactive games, and watch instructional videos. When students are on campus, they participate in science experiments, math activities and a global project based learning activity. Students learn digital storytelling to "tell their stories," in content across the curriculum. Writing skills are taught through integration of all subjects. There is a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) education in my classes.
About Elementary Edgenuity: Edgenuity offers a standards aligned fully virtual curriculum, to give students everything they need to build the foundation for learning. Students develop their literacy and learning habits during elementary school. A key growth point for students is when they advance from learning to read to reading to learn, so it's essential for young students to receive the instruction, guidance, and support they need to close early gaps and master foundational skills in reading, math, and learning in general.
